





Come and write your own, original poem on the sand at Orewa Beach.
Poetry on the Beach is a wrap-up event for National Poetry Day, and will be held on Saturday 27th August 2022 at 12:30pm-1:30pm, at Moana Reserve, Orewa Beach, Auckland, New Zealand, followed by people’s choice prize draw and poem reading at Orewa Library (12 Moana Ave) at 2pm.
Your poem can be short or long, you can be creative with formatting and layout, and you are also welcome to decorate your poem with natural materials that are found in the beach environment. Let your imagination run wild!

In addition to the people’s choice prize awarded on the day, a $100 prize for best poem, as well as a youth prize and runner-up prize will be awarded after the event, judged by Siobhan Harvey. Siobhan is a displaced author of eight books, including the poetry and creative nonfiction collection, Ghosts (OUP, 2021). She is recipient of 2020 NZSA Peter & Dianne Beatson Fellowship, 2019 Kathleen Grattan Award for a Sequence of Poems, 2019 Robert Burns Poetry Prize and 2013 Kathleen Grattan Award. Placed numerous times in the Landfall Essay competition, her work is published in prominent journals and anthologies like Asia Literary Review (HK), Best New Zealand Poems 2020 andFeminine Divine: Voices of Power & Invisibility (Cyren US, 2019). She’s a Lecturer in Creative Writing at AUT.
